arcade fire sets the crowd alight

Okay, corny title, I know. But in my enthusiasm to write about this I haven't bothered to stop and conjure up something suitably subtle.

I went to the Arcade Fire concert last Friday. And it was awesome and fantastic and better than almost any other concert I have ever seen. Around two-thirds of the way through the show, the singer was like "Hey, I apologize to security, but you guys gotta dance to music, so come the fuck on down." And that's when we rushed towards the stage like madmen and jumped and screamed and danced our asses off.

I place into evidence here exhibit A, a video of the encore from that show, taken by some random guy standing in front of me (and diligently recording the show rather than enjoying being two rows away from the stage). Listen to how the crowd goes insane and sings the whole song. Also, listen carefully for a crazy loud voice that shouts "Wake Up!" (as a request) before the song starts. And guess who that is.

Immortality through Youtube. Awesome. I'm never going to achieve it through billu.net so I may as well take what I can get.

i dont know you at all (though i suspect you're a friend of oba's b/c that's where i found your blog) but from your writings, you don't strike me as the jump and scream and dance your ass off kind of guy. oh well. i didnt know malcolm gladwell was distantly related to colin powell either, so i guess figuring out people just by reading them can be a tricky business.

Take me to a dance party and I'm the guy who's bored to death and sitting in a corner. But take me to a good rock concert and I'm the guy who's annoying you because he's jumping and screaming every single lyric.

A tricky business indeed.

sorry I'm leaving outdated comments, I thought you had quit blogging and I've only returned to your page, good to have you back, and damn...arcade fire rock! But i was pissed when i heard they were Justin Timberlake's favourite band. And I suspect I have pissed you off as well.

Good for JT. At least he listens to good music, even if he doesn't make it.

you madarchod, i wasnt "getting all pissed because someone was happy". i was merely inquiring into this billu fellow's admission that he danced at a concert when his writing style and content belies the type of personality that would dance at a concert.

by the way i sent you an email with a link to some article about sgt pepper's. you're welcome.

Actually, I enjoyed the show very very much. I was also only recording the first couple of seconds of each song so i could remember the setlist. I did get caught up in the moment during the encore as you can see from the video. I was right there with everyone else. I was totally blown away by the show.

Oh, and you're welcome.
